Micropiles
Based on the design working life and corrosion load, micropiles can be broadly classified as Temporary (up to 2 years) and Permanent (up to 100 years). Many corrosion protection methods are in practice such as Standard Corrosion Protection, Double Corrosion Protection, sacrificial corrosion, and hot-dip galvanization.

Standard Corrosion Protection (SCP)

SCP micropiles consist of a bare solid bar (mono) with hot rolled continuous threads as the steel reinforcement (tendon). SCP micropiles are used for permanent application in the low corrosive environment for compression load cases. For tensile load cases in a low corrosive environment, it is used for temporary applications with full load capacity, or for permanent applications with reduced load capacity (due to crack width limitation). Corrosion protection is achieved by grout cover thickness and crack width limit.

Double Corrosion Protection (DCP)

For permanent applications where design working life is more than 2 years or sufficient protection is not possible by SCP system due to aggressive soil conditions, DCP system (in acc. to EN 1537) can be used.
By using a DCP system, micropiles can be used for permanent application (up to 100 years) irrespective of environmental conditions and direction of load. Threaded solid bar placed inside an HDPE or PVC corrugated sheathing which is factory grouted serves as the reinforcement bar (tendon).
